Dr. Nirmala Khandan (Professor, Civil Engineering) was renewed as the Ed and Harold Foreman Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering for a second 5-year term. The endowed chair was made possible through the generosity of a gift from Dr. Edgar (Ed) F. Foreman and Mr. Harold “Chub” Foreman. The Foreman brothers both earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from NMSU, Dr. Ed Foreman in 1955 and Mr. Harold Foreman in 1961. In addition, Dr. Ed Foreman earned an Honorary Doctorate of Letters degree from NMSU in 2008. Dr. Ed Foreman’s career began as an oil field hand and led to a highly successful petroleum-related business. Today, Dr. Ed Foreman is one of the country’s top motivational speakers and positive thinkers. Mr. Harold Foreman’s career started in heavy construction and led to real estate brokerage and management. He currently is president and co-owner of a property management and asset holding company. The Foreman brothers also had successful political careers, Dr. Ed Foreman in the U.S. Congress (New Mexico and Texas), and Mr. Harold Foreman in the New Mexico State Senate. The endowed chair recognizes a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at NMSU who exemplifies excellence in teaching, research, and service.
