ReNUWIt’s Kristina Macro earns top honors at SWE Conference

Ms. Kristina Macro, undergraduate student from State University of New York (SUNY) received a first place for research poster presentation titled Stem Water Potential in Desert Willow Grown in Clinoptilolite Zeolite and In-Situ Riparian Soil at the Society of Women Engineers – Region E Conference held at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown Hotel, Syracuse, NY on February 24-26, 2017.  Kristina was one of the students who participated in the NMSU–ReNUWIt’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program at Sunland Park, NM Test-Bed Study site in summer of 2016. Dr. Salim Bawazir is the lead researcher for the Sunland Park ReNUWIt project and Dr. Nirmala Khandan is the NMSU-ReNUWIt PI. Kristina’s graduate student mentor and faculty advisor were Mr. Aldo Piñon-Villarreal and Dr. Salim Bawazir. Kristina has recently been accepted in graduate school and was offered a fellowship/TA from the SUNY University at Buffalo Civil Engineering department!
