For over a century, New Mexico State University has been offering Civil Engineering courses. We currently offer B.S. (127 Credit Hours), M.S. (30 Credit Hours) and Ph.D. programs in civil and environmental engineering concentrations in Structural, Environmental, Geotechnical, Transportation, and Water Resources. We arecommitted to preparing our students to be leaders in the profession.

Graduate Program Admission Information
The Civil Engineering Department does not have a deadline but to be considered for this upcoming semester, you should apply as soon as possible (especially if you are an international applicant).

To apply, please go to www.nmsu.edu and click on Admissions. From there, please select what type of admission (graduate (domestic/international). Please indicate if you have private funds or sponsorships. Applications need to be reviewed before available assistantships are considered. Teaching assistantships are contingent upon your English skills, position availability and references. Research assistantships are contingent upon funding and references. Please, you need to apply to know if you are eligible and accepted. FOR PhD Applications: In the Enrollment Information, Degree Expected Section, please select Engineering first, there you will find Civil Engineering. All required documents listed below need to be uploaded BEFORE you submit your application. Otherwise, you will not be able to upload after the submission (except for reference letters, but app will not be reviewed until all three letters are submitted). E-mails copies of any document(s) that were not uploaded into the application are no longer accepted. (Please submit all documents on 8-1/2 x 11)

  • GPA minimum requirement 3.0
  • For application to be complete, three letters of reference need to uploaded by recommending faculty. Your application is not complete until all three letters are uploaded. (at this time, this requirement applies only to non-NMSU students)
  • Statement of Purpose (please include one interest (environmental, geotechnical, structures, transportation or water resources) so that we can forward your application to the correct faculty review committee)
  • GRE is no longer required, though favorable for assistantships
  • For international students: applicant is required to have a TOEFL or IELTS >550. The student is responsible for checking with the graduate school for TOEFL exemptions based on country.
  • Transcript copies uploaded to application required for departmental review only (copies need to be clear and readable).
