For over 30 years, the Civil Engineering Department has actively developed educational and research programs in various aspects of environmental engineering, to include sustainable engineering solutions for environmental problems to protect humans and our environment. Our groups focus on surface, groundwater, and wastewater treatment, quality analysis, and pollution control; solid and hazardous waste systems design; aquatic chemistry; environmental microbiology; and mass transfer of pollutants in engineered and natural systems.

Technically challenging and forever fascinating, NMSU’s Structural Engineering groups perform analysis, design, construction, and evaluation of buildings, bridges, and other structures to ensure public safety. These groups continue to push the boundaries of next generation materials, systems, and design.

Dealing with the design, analysis, and construction of foundations, slopes, retaining structures, pavements, excavations, tunneling, earth dams, earthworks, and other systems made of or supported by soil or rock, NMSU’s Geotechnical Engineering Research groups have been engaged in federally funded research studies and have received numerous awards and recognition.
